Matthew B. Yost Scholarship Award

Matt was diagnosed in January, 2000 with leukemia, a blood-related cancer. His family and many friends struggled along with him as he battled a difficult foe. On Thursday, November 9, 2000, Matt lost his courageous battle with cancer.

Matt was a member of the Junior Class at Everett High. He was an avid athlete who participated joyfully in soccer and swimming at EHS. Away from school, he loved anything to do with water, whether it be fishing, water sports, or the frozen variety for snowboarding or skiing.

Matt was looked upon as a friend by many because he treated people so well. Young and old alike were touched by his presence. In recognition of a life well-lived and to perpetuate his memory, his family and others established a scholarship for one or more graduating seniors who exemplify many of his qualities.

The basic criteria for consideration in the Matthew B. Yost Scholarship Award are:

  • A minimum 2.5 grade point average
  • Athletic
  • Responsible
  • Caring of others
  • Respectful of others
  • Exhibiting leadership abilities
Matt Yost was an excellent role model in these attributes for other students.
